Make Bath Time Easier and More Fun

Ever had issues getting a child into or out of the bathtub?

Here’s an easy way to get your child out of the tub when they decide they want to stay in.  (I always laugh when they whine about getting into the tub, and then whine about getting out.)

Anyway, the other night I pulled the plug on the bath drain and the water was going down.  The six year old was impressed with the little vortex that forms at the drain when the water is going down.  I got to thinking about that a little and on a whim went and got some food coloring that I usually use to make play doh with.  When the water vortex was especially large I dropped a small drop of pink food coloring into the water right next to it.  The six year old was thoroughly impressed and made me do the game again and again and again until the water was gone.

The food coloring turns the water vortex at the drain into a colorful array of swirling fun.  It’s fun to let the child put the food coloring into the water, too.  Be careful they don’t squeeze the whole thing into the tub, though.  The coloring has a strange way of turning skin the same color as the dye.

Generally, I will have the kiddo pull the plug with the promise of making “tornado colors”.  After all the water is gone, time to get out!

If, for some reason, they don’t get out right then, you can always turn the cold water on full blast.  As a last resort, direct the cold water to the shower head.  Then they get out in a major hurry.  I’ve only had to do that once, though. :)

And there you have it.
